Happy October! Here are some ways I’ve been celebrating this spooky season so far:
Halloween Blankets & Movie Night
My sister and her husband invited me and my boyfriend to their house for a fun Halloween themed weekend! We picked out matching fleece to make Halloween tie blankets while watching a Disney Channel Halloween classic: Halloweentown. I brought some apple wine from a local apple orchard, Armstrong Apples Orchard & Winery, which we paired with snack plates consisting of cheese, crackers, pretzels, hot dog mummies, and apples & caramel dip-- YUM! For dessert we made the iconic Pillsbury Halloween cookies (I could eat 20 of these in one sitting). This was such a fun get together, and I would highly recommend it! Watch my TikTok below showcasing some highlights :)
Weekend Trip Up North
My family shares a cabin in northern WI on Trout Lake. (UW-Madison actually has a research station on this lake, and I've used the data in several of my classes! So cool!) I've been coming up to our cabin ever since I was a baby, and I have a lot of memories of my sister and my cousins and me playing in the sand and swimming in the sun.
Most of the times where I have visited our cabin, it was summertime. We would spend our days swimming, boating, and biking. Recently, however, I've been making trips during the fall as well, and it is absolutely beautiful! The fall colors really start to pop in the beginning of October, so when I come back home, it's as if I went back in time-- and I get to experience it all over again.
During this weekend getaway, we tried to make the most of the gloomy weather. One morning we made pumpkin chocolate chip pancakes for breakfast (SO good!) before heading into Boulder Junction to check out some local shops. I bought a cute ring and some peach apricot jam. We also drove and hiked around the area to admire the fall colors. I collected soo many leaves-- I just couldn't stop! My dog, Riley, also enjoyed his time up there. When it came time to head home, he did NOT want to get in the van.
Fright Fest!
Last Friday, my boyfriend and I drove down to Six Flags Great America for their Fright Fest festivities. The park is decorated all spooky, and once it becomes dark outside, there are people dressed up walking around trying to scare you (essentially like an outdoor haunted house).
First we went on Superman, as I always go on this one first! 10/10. Will always be one of my favorite rides. Next we went on The Flash: Vertical Velocity, which is crazy fast! (No wonder it's called The Flash.) Lastly, we rode Raging Bull, my personal favorite! We ended up cutting the night short due to a combination of nausea, headaches, and a long drive home ahead of us. While we only ended up going on three rides, it was so worth it!
I recall one time when I went with a friend, and we ended up going on a total of 20ish rides in one day. Towards the
end, we didn't even feel anything from any ride! That being said, no matter the amount of rides you end up going on, you'll be sure to have a thrilling experience!
Day Trip to Devil's Lake
Believe it or not, these photos were taken on the first of October, in 80 degree weather! It was crazy hot that day, but it was nice to be taken aback to summer for a moment. Families were grilling and swimming, and the sun was shining. My friends and I hiked around the whole lake (around 6 miles I believe), and it was so beautiful. Fall colors are not quite at peak yet here, but I imagine it will be stunning when they are. Once we were finished with our hike, we headed to Ski-Hi Fruit Farm where we devoured apple cider donuts and caramel apples-- a well deserved treat!
I hope you enjoyed reading about my first few fall activities & that you're inspired to embrace the change in the seasons. I have many plans to look forward to yet, including a Badger football game, haunted forest, Halloween parties, and more!
Happy Creating,
Lauren
