My senior year at UW-Madison, I took a Museum Studies class, where I had the opportunity to complete my own research project for another course credit. I decided to make an educational display case for the UW Zoology building, teaching visitors about two different Plovers found in Wisconsin: the Piping Plover and the Semipalmated Plover. I painted each bird using watercolors and gathered information about each bird's habitat, diet, conservation status, etc. The mounts and eggs featured are from the UW Zoological Museum!
Read about science illustration, the importance of plovers, and my design process below in my mock magazine article.
This project was so much fun, and I am so proud of how it turned out. If you ever find yourself in the Noland Zoology building at UW-Madison, take a look around to see if you can find it!
Happy creating,
Lauren
