Plant & Insect Interpretive Signs
This past summer I had the opportunity to intern at Allen Centennial Garden as the photography & design intern. My intern project that I proposed was to create interpretive signs for the garden that talk about different plant and insect interactions. I used watercolors to paint the different plants and insects, and I assembled everything using Adobe Illustrator. I am very proud of this project, and I am so excited to see the signs implemented in the garden in the spring!
This sign highlights the importance of Wisconsin's native plants and pollinators. I painted a Black and Gold Bumble Bee, one of Wisconsin's largest bumble bee species!
The next sign addresses how lady beetles, such as Wisconsin's native Convergent Lady Beetle, help control harmful aphid populations.
The final sign shows the relationships between asters, tachinid flies, and Japanese beetles. Tachinid flies lay eggs on Japanese beetles, which ends up killing the invasive beetles.
